How to use this calculator
Choose the method that matches a completed test. Enter its measurements. Rockport uses one mile; the run test uses 1.5 miles. The Queens College comparison uses a 16.25-inch (41.3 cm) step for three minutes: 24 steps per minute for men and 22 for women. Count recovery pulse from 5 to 20 seconds after stopping and multiply by four. Do not use a result from a different step protocol. Race time uses a compact interpolated VDOT comparison table.
What the result can tell you
These estimates are not interchangeable with a laboratory oxygen-uptake test. Do not attempt a maximal field test if exercise is unsafe for you. Resting heart rate is affected by medicines, illness, stress, and caffeine. Rockport was studied mainly in adults aged 30–69. Reference bands and method errors describe groups, not an individual diagnosis.
